UH College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
Five NSM Professors’ Research Showcased at National Chemistry Conference

Advancements in consumer electronics and liquid state theory were among research projects presented by UH chemistry faculty at the American Chemical Society meeting in Boston last month.

Rigoberto Advincula, associate professor of chemistry, presented a paper on conjugated polymers and hybrid nanomaterials useful for energy conservation devices display screens. His work with novel polymers could make cell phone displays brighter.

Arnold Guloy, associate professor of chemistry, presented an exploratory work in rare earth suboxides that led to the discovery of two new compounds with new structure types.

Montgomery Pettitt, Cullen Professor of Chemistry, conducted two presentations on the fundamental advances made in liquid state theory in the last two years.

Boris Makarenko, research assistant professor of chemistry, discussed how the preferable absorption position of sodium atoms on copper surfaces is determined experimentally for the first time.
