"Science on the Grid" Topic of Friday’s TLC2 Lecture
A representative of the European Organization for Nuclear Research will speak about "Science on the Grid" Friday, Feb. 22 as part of the Texas Learning and Computation Center Distinguished Lecturer Series. His talk will begin at 11 a.m. in Hoffman Hall, room 232.

Bob Jones, project director of the European Commission (EU)-financed Enabling Grids for E-science (EGEE) project, will highlight the multidisciplinary applications and international nature of the project designed to create large-scale computational resources.

EGEE is the leading player in the Grid, a computing model providing on-demand, location-independent access to very large scale computing. It operates the world's largest multiscience production Grid infrastructure. As the EU’s flagship project, EGEE unites regional and national Grid infrastructures into a seamless whole capable of supporting scientists in their research 24/7. Users of the EGEE Grid are organized into Virtual Organizations, which allow users to share resources, codes, data and common tools specific to their disciplines.
