NSM Alumna, Instructor Recognized as Technology Leader
Katya Casey, an alumna of the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, recently was honored by the National Association for Women in Computing (AWC) Houston Chapter with a 2008 Leadership in Technology Award.

Casey graduated from UH in 1995 with a Master of Science degree in geology. She is global manager of subsurface computing for BHP Billiton Petroleum Information Technology. She also is a lecturer in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, where she teaches a geographic information course.

AWC presents the award to women who demonstrate proven leadership qualities in their companies and their industry and who professionally have made and been recognized for significant career contributions. Recipients also must have a record of mentoring and helping other women cultivate professional success.

Katya Casey is the wife of Jack Casey, chair of the UH earth and atmospheric sciences department.
