NSM Faculty Garner Six UH Awards

College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics faculty have captured six University of Houston awards, including a physicist who received an endowed professorship.

The winners were among the 2010 recipients of the university’s most prestigious faculty awards given each spring to honor the best teachers and researchers.

Larry Pinsky, physics professor and department chair, was named a John and Rebecca Moores Professor. Recipients are chosen for outstanding work in teaching, research and service and receive a $10,000 annual stipend.

Rong Zheng, an assistant professor of computer science, received an Excellence In Research & Teaching award, which carries a $5,000 prize.

Olaf Daugulis, an associate professor of chemistry, earned a Teaching Excellence award, which includes a $5,000 prize.

Mary Bean, a chemistry instructor, won a Teaching Excellence award for non-tenure track faculty, which also comes with a $5,000.

Rigoberto Advincula, chemistry professor, received the Faculty Award for Mentoring Undergraduate Research and will get a $5,000 prize.

Bill Dupre, an associate geoscience professor, won the Provost Faculty Advising award, which includes a $1,000 prize.
