Computer Science Receives Grant for Undergraduate Research

The National Science Foundation recently awarded a $310,000 grant to the UH computer science department to support undergraduate research.

The NSF grant will support active research participation by undergraduate students during the summer for the next three years. In addition to the NSF money, the university also has committed $126,000 to the project.

This is the second such grant given to the department. During the past three summers, 31 students from all over the United.States – including seven from UH – participated in the 10-week program.

Participants receive a $4,000 stipend and room and board.

"We are very excited to receive the second award. It is a confirmation that our effort in the past three years has been viewed positively by the NSF and the computer science community," said Stephen Huang, a computer science professor participating in the project.
