UH College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
NSM Faculty Blogging for Houston Chronicle
Several professors from the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics are now showcasing their expertise to a wider audience by blogging on popular science topics for the Houston Chronicle.

Evo.Sphere, a blog launched this summer to discuss evolution, is authored by five biologists from UH – assistant professors Ricardo Azevedo, Tim Cooper, Tony Frankino and Rebecca Zuffall and John and Rebecca Moores Professor Dan Graur.

The blog is a place where readers can read about and discuss new research in evolutionary biology and controversies surrounding the teaching of evolution in schools. Recent posts include Graur’s recommended list of popular and readable evolution-related books and an entry by Frankino discussing new research that uses evolutionary principles to better understand cancer growth.

Also launched this year on the Chronicle Web site was Atmo.Sphere, a blog to discuss the latest developments in climate change and air pollution. It is co-authored by Barry Lefer, an assistant professor of atmospheric science at UH and John Nielsen-Gammon, a professor at Texas A&M University. A recent entry by Lefer discusses rising methane levels in the planet’s atmosphere and what that means for global temperatures.
