NSM Welcomes Freshmen With Frosh Frenzy

Math and science freshmen at the University of Houston dashed across campus during the first week of school in their own exciting version of the popular TV show "The Amazing Race."

Frosh Frenzy, an event sponsored by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, pitted teams of NSM freshmen against each other to see which could complete a course of UH buildings and landmarks first.

Donning neon yellow T-shirts, the students followed clues as they moved from one location to the next, with book scholarships and other prizes awaiting the top three teams. The event also included games, free pizza and an impromptu visit from UH President Renu Khator, who dropped by to chat with new students.

The event, held Aug. 28, is a first for NSM and was designed to familiarize incoming students with the campus and allow them to network with fellow NSM students and faculty and learn how to get involved in the college.

"Our goal in creating Frosh Frenzy is to ensure that our incoming students feel welcome on campus, have a positive college transition experience and enjoy overwhelming academic success by being connected and aware of the resources available to them," said Dawnelle Prince-Parks, director of undergraduate recruitment for NSM. "In the long term, activities like this should lead to increased student retention and future successful, loyal alumni."
