Former President of India Tours CNRCS

APJ Abdul Kalam Visits UH Research Facilities

Former president of India and aeronautical engineer, APJ Abdul Kalam, met with Jan-Åke Gustafsson, director of University of Houston’s Center for Nuclear Receptors and Cell Signaling (CNRCS), for a tour of the Center in late August. The meeting included an overview of the Center’s research and personnel, a walkthrough of the lab areas, and a scientific discussion between Gustafsson and Kalam. The meeting was arranged through the office of UH President Renu Khator.

The CNRCS was featured in a tour of UH research facilities, following Kalam’s speech to more than 300 students at the UH Hilton hotel and conference center. He was also awarded a UH Presidential Medallion during his visit.

Kalam was the 11th president of India, following a distinguished career with the Indian Space Research Organization. He currently is the chancellor of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, and recipient of the Bharat Ratna, India’s most prestigious civilian award.
