NSM and UH Energy Host Energy Symposium Series

Series Features Moderated Debates on Critical Energy Issues

In October, the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and UH Energy launched the 2013-14 Energy Symposium Series, featuring moderated debates between industry speakers on critical issues facing the energy industry.

The first event addressed hydraulic fracturing, featuring Paul Krishna, issues manager for environmental, health and safety at XTO Energy, and Scott Anderson, senior policy advisor for the Environmental Defense Fund’s climate and energy program. Margaret Hill, a partner at Blank Rome, served as moderator.

“This series is building on the success of NSM’s health-related lecture series in 2012,” said Dan E. Wells, NSM dean. “The energy topics we’re addressing are often seen in the headlines, and the moderated debates allow the audience to better understand both sides of these critical issues.

Wells added that the October event drew a crowd of 375 with an excellent mix of industry representatives, students, faculty, alumni and the general public.

The November debate will cover the topic of liquefied natural gas exports and their impact on the United States.
