Young Inventors at Work!

Thirty 7th-9th graders spent two weeks on campus at the Chiyoda Young Innovators’ Academy. They learned what it takes to develop an idea, taking it from a concept to a prototype. The Academy is organized by NSM’s teachHOUSTON program.

Block Party Welcomes Students

NSM students got a chance to relax and play before the start of the fall semester. The 4th Annual NSM Block Party included food, games, an inflatable obstacle course, and the chance to visit tables hosted by various NSM-related student organizations. The first 300 students received an NSM t-shirt.

Featured Video: Computer Science Career Fair

Each semester between 30-50 companies participate in the Computer Science Career Fair, organized by the department and the Cougar CS and CS Girls student organizations. It’s a great opportunity for current CS students to connect with company representatives to discuss rewarding opportunities such as internships, co-ops, and full-time positions. This fall the event will be September 11, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

NSM at UH Take Your Child to Work Day

In June, NSM hosted 30 children of UH employees with a morning of STEM activities. Students experienced demonstrations and hands-on activities organized by the Departments of Chemistry, Computer Science and Physics.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship: Helping Physicians Visualize Patient Information

Jose Daniel Velazco-Garcia, a Ph.D. student in Computer Science, received a prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. His work with the Microsoft Hololens, a holographic display, can be used to help a physician visualize patient information in true 3D. Related News Story
